Engineering and technology without taking into account the complexity and uncertainty associated to ecosystem functioning and the biosphere as a whole, have largely contributed to damaging nature\’s life support systems. Yes, we can say that back in the 19th century we did not know. But now we know. Radically and uncritically upscaling engineering to solve climate change will just deepen our troubles, and do not address the root causes of the problem.
